MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has named his brother Alex Marquez as his main rival for the 2026 title, vowing not to call him "my brother" anymore but as a professional competitor.
Speaking at an Estrella Galicia event in November 2025, Marc Marquez highlighted Alex Marquez's impressive 2025 season. Alex Marquez finished runner-up with three victories, trailing his brother by 78 points. Despite Marc Marquez missing the final four rounds due to a severe shoulder injury from a crash with Marco Bezzecchi at the Indonesian Grand Prix, he recognizes his brother's threat.
"Well, Alex will be my main rival from the start; he'll have a GP26. He's proven he's capable of anything," Marc said. "I won't refer to him as my brother, but as Alex Marquez: runner-up in the world championship and capable of anything."
This statement shows deep respect for Alex Marquez's achievements. By using his full name, Marc Marquez shifts the focus to pure on-track rivalry. Off-track, their bond remains strong, with Marc calling 2025 one of the best seasons due to their shared success.
Alex Marquez's promotion to the factory Ducati Lenovo Team equates their machinery with Marc Marquez at Gresini Racing. This sets up intense internal battles. Marc Marquez, with 11 grand prix wins and 14 sprints in 2025, now faces a new challenge from his sibling.
Other contenders like Francesco Bagnaia and riders from rival brands remain threats, but Marc Marquez sees Alex Marquez as the immediate danger. His shoulder recovery is progressing well, with a return expected at the Sepang test in February 2026.
The 2026 season promises to be thrilling, driven by the captivating Marquez sibling rivalry blending family talent with championship ambition.
