Lancia's return to the rallying world extends far beyond a simple sporting venture, serving as a dedicated mission to rebuild the rich heritage of the Turin marque in international motorsport. The 2026 season marked a monumental milestone with the competitive debut of the Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale on the global rally stage.
The results achieved by Lancia Corse were nothing short of exceptional, culminating in the WRC2 teams’ championship title during the car's maiden campaign. This milestone underscored the manufacturer's enduring competitive spirit and provided invaluable technical data gathered across the WRC, ERC, and national championships.
Attention has now shifted toward the 2027 season, requiring crucial decisions regarding technical advancements, operational calendars, and most importantly, the driver roster. Newly crowned European champion Teemu Suninen has emerged as a prominent name mentioned among potential new recruits for the upcoming championship.
While management keeps tight-lipped about the exact driver lineup for next year, team representative Martello emphasized that Lancia's dedication to the sport remains unwavering as they evaluate every available opportunity in the driver market.
"We are of course extremely proud that we managed to win the WRC2 teams’ title with a completely new car in our very first season. It is a huge source of joy for Lancia and Lancia Corse," Martello stated regarding the title triumph.
"Winning is in our DNA, so it has been a very positive season and we have learnt a great deal. Naturally, our aim is also to win drivers’ championships," he added, highlighting their long-term ambitions.
Addressing the 2027 calendar, Martello noted that finalized regulations will assist the team in solidifying their upcoming international and domestic competition programmes sooner rather than later.
