MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Jorge Martin arrives at the 2026 Spanish MotoGP in Jerez with clear upward momentum alongside Aprilia Racing, but maintains that he is not yet fully ready to secure a grand prix victory.
The Spaniard has delivered a steady progression in points across the opening three rounds—18, 27, and 32—highlighted by his first podiums with Aprilia in Brazil and a maiden RS-GP Sprint victory at COTA. This consistency places him just four points behind team-mate Marco Bezzecchi, who has won all grands prix so far this season despite errors in two Sprint races.
Despite the trajectory, Martin remains cautious in his expectations, emphasising that his current objective is to compete at maximum capacity rather than target a specific result.

“For sure, it’s been a nice start of the season, but I feel I’m not ready yet to win a grand prix,” Martin said at Jerez.
“Let’s see. If I have the chance, for sure I will go for it.”
His perspective is shaped by the context of the previous season, when he was recovering from significant injuries and was unable to compete at full capacity. That contrast has influenced his current approach to performance and expectations.
“I’m just happy to be here. One year ago, I was watching from Qatar with my phone in the hospital.”
“My target is to compete at my 100%, and let’s see what that brings us.”
Martin’s 2025 campaign was heavily impacted by injuries, including eleven broken ribs and a collapsed lung in Qatar, following earlier fractures to his hand and ankle during pre-season incidents. He also experienced contractual tension with Aprilia before ultimately remaining with the team. These factors have contributed to a more measured and resilient mindset in 2026.
“I don’t regret anything about my past. I just try to learn and grow every time.”
“Last season was really tough, but it made me the person I am today. I feel stronger and better.”
From a technical standpoint, Martin highlighted that his adaptation to the Aprilia RS-GP 2026 has progressed efficiently. He described the bike as now feeling fully aligned with his riding style after making several adjustments to his approach.
“I feel the Aprilia is like ‘my bike’ now. That was the same feeling I had in 2024.”
“I changed a lot of small things in my riding style because it’s a completely different bike.”
He also credited Aprilia’s winter development for improving the base performance of the package, noting that he felt comfortable from his first outing in Thailand. However, he acknowledged that further gains remain possible through ongoing evaluation of new components.
“I still need to try some parts that I don’t yet have on my bike, so Monday’s test will be important to improve.”
At the same time, Martin indicated that the current package already provides a strong foundation, suggesting that only minor refinements are required rather than major changes.
“I feel really good with my package, and I don’t want to change too much.”
With performance trending upward and the gap to the championship lead remaining minimal, the Spanish Grand Prix represents a critical opportunity for Martin to convert consistency into a first grand prix victory of the season. Combined with the post-race test at Jerez, the weekend will serve as a key indicator of his readiness to mount a sustained title challenge as the championship enters its European phase.
