When the lights go out at the end of the season and the Formula E World Championship title is secured, fans often wonder: how much prize money does the champion take home? The answer might surprise many. Unlike other racing series, there is no direct cash prize handed to the driver.

According to official FIA regulations, the Formula E organizer does not give cash or direct prizes to the driver who wins the Drivers' World Championship. The entire prize pool is allocated directly to teams or constructors, with amounts determined by their final position in the Teams' World Championship standings.

Despite this, the financial value flowing to the champion driver remains substantial. First, top Formula E drivers typically earn a base salary ranging from i1 million to i2.8 million (around Rp17 billion to Rp48 billion) per season, paid by their teams. Second, performance bonus clauses in contracts provide additional incentives for race wins, podiums, and securing the world title. Third, the world championship title exponentially boosts a driver's commercial value globally, opening doors to personal sponsorship deals that can far exceed the base salary.

Why is this system in place? The centralized prize distribution is designed to maintain the financial stability of the Formula E ecosystem. Prize money received by teams is reinvested into technology research, powertrain development, and race operational costs. A cost cap of around $15 million per season is also enforced to ensure fair and healthy competition, giving every team an equal opportunity to compete.

Thus, although there is no direct cash prize, the Formula E World Championship title remains one of the most valuable achievements in electric racing—both in prestige and long-term financial impact for a driver's career.
