Bad luck has struck Isack Hadjar ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver has been ruled out of the Zandvoort weekend after suffering a wrist injury during a gym session in the summer break. As a result, Yuki Tsunoda, the team's third driver, will step in for the race weekend.
The news comes as a heavy blow for Hadjar, who had prepared a special helmet design for the event. Unfortunately, that helmet won't be seen in action. This isn't the first time a driver has been forced to withdraw from Zandvoort due to physical issues. Two years ago, in 2023, Daniel Ricciardo suffered a similar fate, albeit under different circumstances.
Ricciardo's 2023 Incident Echo
Ricciardo, for instance, managed to take part in the first two practice sessions before his injury. The crash occurred in FP2 when he tried to avoid the stricken car of Oscar Piastri at Turn 3. Ricciardo lost control and hit the barriers. He immediately clutched his left arm in pain, and later scans confirmed a fractured metacarpal, forcing him to sit out the rest of the weekend.

That injury also kept him out of the next four races. At the time, he had just returned as a full-time driver replacing Nyck de Vries, and his season was already turbulent after leaving McLaren. AlphaTauri promoted Liam Lawson as a stand-in, and the young Kiwi impressed with a ninth-place finish in Singapore and came close to points in other races.
Now it's Hadjar's turn to watch from the sidelines. Although he's only in his debut F1 season, missing the Zandvoort race is undoubtedly painful. His performances with Red Bull so far have been promising, but injury is an inevitable part of the sport. The priority now is a full recovery before he returns to the cockpit.
Tsunoda is no stranger to Zandvoort. While he hasn't yet stood on the podium there, his experience with Racing Bulls could prove valuable. The question now is whether he can seize this opportunity to showcase his capabilities in front of Red Bull's management. His performances this season have been under the spotlight, and such sudden replacements often become defining moments.
On the other hand, Red Bull's decision to appoint Tsunoda as Hadjar's replacement highlights the depth of their squad. With a packed calendar and the ever-present risk of injury, having a competent reserve driver is crucial. Zandvoort will be an interesting stage to see how the team dynamics unfold amid unexpected circumstances.
