Zak Brown has firmly dismissed suggestions that Gianpiero Lambiase is set to become team principal of McLaren, responding directly to comments made by Laurent Mekies that triggered speculation across the Formula 1 paddock.

Brown reiterated that Andrea Stella remains firmly in charge of the team, emphasising his confidence in the Italian’s leadership. He rejected any implication that Lambiase’s future arrival would alter McLaren’s management structure at the highest level.

Lambiase, currently known as the race engineer to Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, is expected to join McLaren in a senior operational role, most likely as chief racing officer by 2028. His recruitment is viewed as part of a broader long-term strategy to strengthen McLaren’s technical and race operations capability.

Speculation surrounding the situation has also included unverified reports linking Stella with a potential return to Ferrari. However, Brown made clear that he is fully satisfied with Stella’s current performance and sees no need for change in the team principal position.

From a management perspective, McLaren’s decision to recruit Lambiase reflects a strategic focus on acquiring top-tier talent across all operational areas. In the context of the complex 2026 regulations, strengthening expertise on the pit wall and within the factory is considered essential for maintaining competitiveness.

Brown underlined that his role as CEO involves building depth not only in the driver line-up but also among engineers, strategists, and technical leadership. Lambiase’s track record at Red Bull positions him as a valuable addition to McLaren’s long-term project.

The episode highlights the political dynamics often present within Formula 1, where personnel movements can quickly generate speculation. Despite this, McLaren has made it clear that its leadership structure remains stable under Stella’s direction.
