World Champion Status Gives Lando Norris Stronger Voice in F1 GPDA
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Lando Norris has more of a seat at the table these days

Entering a crucial phase of his Formula 1 career, Lando Norris has admitted that his new status as a world champion has naturally elevated the weight of his voice within the paddock. The British driver secured his maiden drivers' crown last year following a titanic season-long battle against teammate Oscar Piastri and championship contender Max Verstappen.

Now embarking on his seventh season of F1 racing, Norris has firmly established himself among the championship's senior establishment. This added experience and ultimate success have inevitably shifted how his opinions are received by key figures, especially regarding matters handled by the Grand Prix Drivers' Association.

Despite enjoying a potentially stronger individual platform, the McLaren star insists that the union continues to speak for the entire grid rather than serving the interests of a select few. Formed back in 1994, the GPDA remains a vital instrument for drivers to address critical safety and regulatory concerns with the governing body.

"I mean, the GPDA is obviously represented by a few drivers, but the input that they put in is our input as drivers," Norris told the media, explaining the collective nature of the driver union.

The current leadership structure features George Russell and Carlos Sainz acting as driver directors, with former F1 racer Alex Wurz serving as chairman—following in the footsteps of past directors like Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso.

While Norris holds no official administrative role within the organization, he acknowledges that holding the ultimate motorsport accolade brings a different level of professional respect and attentiveness from stakeholders.

"Obviously, I’m part of that, and maybe people listen to my voice more now than previously, and that’s something that just comes with, I guess, the credit of winning the world championship," Norris added, emphasizing that his primary focus remains heavily tilted toward protecting the interests of both the drivers and the fans.
