Toto Wolff has issued a strong response to ongoing criticism of the 2026 Formula 1 cars, arguing that the Miami Grand Prix demonstrated the quality of racing under the current regulations.

The Mercedes team principal pointed to the intense early-race battles before Kimi Antonelli took control and secured his third consecutive victory of the season.

Criticism of the new-generation cars has persisted, including comments from Lando Norris regarding energy systems. However, Wolff argued that Miami provided clear evidence that the current regulations can still deliver competitive racing.

“If there’s anyone complaining about today’s race, they should hide. It was great advertising for Formula 1,” Wolff said.

From a technical standpoint, Miami’s layout—with less extreme energy management demands—allowed drivers to push harder, resulting in more dynamic on-track battles compared to other circuits.

Wolff also acknowledged increasing pressure from rivals, noting that McLaren has made a significant performance step, while Red Bull Racing demonstrated strong outright pace in qualifying.

“We are still holding our position, but McLaren has taken a big step. Red Bull was very fast in qualifying, although their strategy didn’t work out,” he added.

With the competitive gap narrowing, focus now shifts to in-season development. Mercedes aims to maintain its advantage heading into the Canadian Grand Prix, where upcoming upgrades will be critical in the evolving title fight.
