A dramatic opening practice session in the GT4 Australia championship saw Lawrence suffer a wild accident at Turn 1 that immediately brought out the red flags. The BMW M4 racer spun towards the inside of the track upon exiting the first corner, impacting the Armco barrier before launching itself on top of the steel structure during Friday morning's running.

The race car skated along the summit of the wall before finally coming to a halt, forcing officials to neutralise the session while track marshals repaired the damaged barrier. The reigning Am Cup champion managed to extract himself from the cockpit completely unharmed and was swiftly cleared by the on-site medical staff following routine checks.

"I’m okay, which is good, but the car has sustained a bit of damage," said Lawrence, reflecting on the heart-stopping moment. He pointed out that the incident stemmed from struggling with older tyres that lacked optimal grip during the opening stages of the practice session.

"The impact wasn’t as abrupt as what I was anticipating. I was on old tyres, and they weren’t in the best condition. I probably just asked a bit much of them in the opening stages of practice. I was pushing on over the ripple strip on the outside. I jumped on the gas and rear tyres lit up, and then I was just a passenger," he elaborated on the loss of control.

Despite the severe nature of the shunt, the driver was able to find a lighter perspective, drawing a surprising comparison to a famous skateboarding icon. "I felt like I was Tony Hawk for a few moments. The car went across the railing, and the back onto the grass. Certainly not the way I like to start my Friday," he added with a hint of relief.

The Randall Racing crew is now facing a massive race against time to assess the structural damage, pull the machine apart, and execute necessary repairs. The team remains hopeful of getting the car back on track for Saturday morning's crucial qualifying session, keeping their fingers crossed amidst a tight turnaround.
