Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is set to return to the Race of Champions. For the first time ever, the event will be held in New Zealand on a purpose-built tarmac circuit inside Hnry Stadium in Wellington this January.
Vettel is no stranger to ROC, having contested all but two events since 2007. He won the individual title in 2015 and has seven Nations’ Cup victories, six of them alongside Michael Schumacher. Now, he aims to add more silverware in New Zealand.
“Before ROC Sydney I went for a first quick visit to New Zealand and was blown away by the beauty of the country, so I told the organisers jokingly, ‘Can you please bring the next ROC to New Zealand?’,” Vettel recalled. “I am really looking forward to competing against so many other champions from across the globe at the Race Of Champions in Wellington in January, and getting a chance to visit more of New Zealand.”

Current F1 driver Valtteri Bottas will also compete, marking his third ROC appearance. “Race Of Champions is such a special and exciting event and I’m so happy that it’s back again,” said Bottas. “I can’t wait to compete in Wellington with all the other drivers from different categories, racing on the same track, in different types of cars, which makes ROC really spectator friendly. Also personally I feel it’s really good to drive something during the off-season and there is no better place to do it than at ROC, so I’m really looking forward to January!”
2025 Supercars champion Chaz Mostert and WRC rally winner Hayden Paddon are the other drivers confirmed so far. The mix of circuit and rally stars promises thrilling battles in Wellington.
ROC is renowned for showcasing driver skill as competitors go head-to-head in identical cars. The presence of Vettel and Bottas adds significant star power, especially for F1 fans eager to see them in action outside the regular season.
With an entertaining format and an exotic new location, ROC New Zealand is shaping up to be one of the most memorable editions yet. Don’t miss it!
