Max Verstappen has shared his thoughts on Robin Raikkonen, son of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, joining the Red Bull Young Driver Programme. The news has caught the paddock's attention, given Robin's young age of 11 but his exceptional talent in karting.

Verstappen revealed he had a brief chat with Kimi and Robin before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. "I met them before the race on Sunday. They were sitting upstairs, so I had a quick chat with Kimi and with Robin," he said. "It was good. I knew he was signed already. It's good to see."

Jokingly, Verstappen hinted that he might still be racing when Robin makes his debut. "Yeah, who knows. Maybe, maybe not. Eventually they also need a seat for him in the team. So then, maybe I'll move aside," he laughed.

Red Bull's decision to sign Robin stems from his impressive karting performances. Red Bull sees great potential in Kimi's son. Team principal Laurent Mekies explained the rationale: "He has already demonstrated exceptional ability in karting. His speed, racecraft and natural talent have established him as one of the most promising young drivers in his age group."

Mekies also praised Robin's maturity. "He impresses with his maturity, his calm approach and his clear focus on driving. Our goal is to develop him step by step, without placing any unnecessary pressure on his shoulders," he added.

Robin's signing marks the first step towards his dream of racing in F1. With championship DNA from his father, many hope he can follow in Kimi's footsteps. However, the journey is long and Red Bull is committed to providing full support. "The path through motorsport is a long one and we will give him the time, support and resources he needs to maximise his potential," Mekies concluded.

Robin's presence on the F1 grid one day would be a special moment, given his father is one of the most iconic drivers of his generation. If successful, he would follow in the footsteps of other world champions' sons who have made it to F1.
