The Super GT season finale at Motegi circuit in Japan instantly became the center of attention for the global endurance racing community. This time, all eyes were firmly locked on the competitive debut of the Toyota GR GT3, fielded by Rookie Racing. The appearance of this brand-new racing machine immediately sparked massive curiosity, especially since its development involves seasoned driver Hiroaki Ishiura sharing driving duties with the manufacturer's young protege, Tokiya Suzuki. This bold step came after careful deliberation by the brand's motorsport management.

GR GT Project Manager Takashi Doi revealed that the decision to throw the car straight into the fierce Super GT battle rather than opting for traditional development series like Super Taikyu was driven by the need for authentic data. According to him, the competitive atmosphere where numerous GT3 cars fight wheel-to-wheel provides the most accurate parameters to test the vehicle's durability and performance under high-pressure scenarios.

A similar sentiment was echoed by Hiroaki Ishiura after completing his initial running inside the cockpit. He openly admitted that plunging straight into a real race environment brought up crucial insights that could never be uncovered through closed testing alone. "When we arrived at the circuit and started our usual testing program like the one we did with the Mercedes-AMG, I was once again reminded of how many things come to light when you actually test the car under real racing conditions," Hiroaki Ishiura explained regarding the dynamic inside the team garage.

Furthermore, the veteran development driver detailed several small yet vital technical aspects that immediately became key evaluation points for Toyota engineers. Seemingly minor issues such as the pedal locking mechanism, rapid driver changes, and precise adjustments in the heat of the moment proved to be valuable lessons. Additionally, the tricky scenario of pulling away from the pit box with full steering lock and evaluating rear-view mirror visibility amid a pack of competitors offered a brand-new perspective for the car's future development.

Although Hiroaki Ishiura refrained from making a direct performance comparison with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 that the team previously relied on in the GT300 class, he emphasized that the Toyota GR GT3 delivers a completely distinct driving feel. Differences in aerodynamic regulations and chassis architecture mean the driving approach must be uniquely tailored. This thorough evaluation at Motegi is believed to serve as a solid foundation for upcoming seasons.
