The battle for supremacy at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez came down to a breathtakingly narrow margin during a tense qualifying session. George Russell put in a phenomenal performance for Mercedes-AMG Petronas, ultimately missing out on the premier grid slot by a mere nine-thousandths of a second to his former teammate.
Reflecting on the dramatic close of the Mexican Grand Prix time trials, team principal Toto Wolff expressed both admiration for the pole sitter and immense pride in his own driver's stellar effort on track.
"I am obviously happy for Lewis Hamilton because he is still so fast and everything came together for him today. But I am equally pleased for George because it was unbelievably close," Wolff explained, noting that when translated into physical track distance, the deficit was roughly fifty centimeters.

The Austrian boss also highlighted the technical hurdles faced by the engineering crew throughout the afternoon, pointing out that getting the tires into the correct operating window while dealing with a fading track grip proved to be a massive challenge requiring meticulous preparation.
Looking ahead to the upcoming race start and the title aspirations of Kimi Antonelli from the second row, the Silver Arrows leadership emphasized that race pace, start execution, and tire management will dictate who stands on the podium in the end.
