Tech3 has yet to decide which manufacturer it will race with in MotoGP 2027 amid increasing speculation linking the French squad with a switch to Honda. The uncertainty is already affecting the team’s rider market plans for the upcoming 850cc regulation era.

The team is now operating under new ownership led by former Haas Formula 1 boss Guenther Steiner. Although Tech3 initially appeared likely to continue its partnership with KTM, recent reports have linked the squad to Honda’s expansion plans.

Honda is reportedly aiming to increase its MotoGP presence to six bikes from 2027 onward. With Gresini Racing expected to remain aligned with Ducati, Tech3 has emerged as the most realistic option for Honda’s satellite expansion.

Team manager Nicolas Goyon confirmed that the manufacturer decision remains the key factor delaying rider negotiations.

“The biggest issue for 2027 is deciding which manufacturer we will continue with.”

“The signing of riders also depends on that.”

From a technical standpoint, the move to 850cc engines and the introduction of Pirelli tyres from 2027 are expected to significantly alter bike development philosophies. As a result, balancing experienced MotoGP riders with talent already familiar with Pirelli characteristics has become a major strategic consideration.

Goyon stated that several rider managers have already expressed interest in joining Tech3, but concrete discussions remain difficult without clarity regarding the team’s technical direction.

“Holding serious negotiations without knowing which manufacturer we will work with makes no sense.”

Tech3 also appears cautious about repeating a full rookie line-up similar to its difficult 2022 campaign with Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez. Under current conditions, the team believes a combination of an experienced MotoGP rider and a rookie would be the preferred approach.

The current pairing of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales is also unlikely to remain unchanged for 2027. Bastianini has been linked with a return to Gresini, while Vinales’ chances of a KTM factory promotion may now be under threat from Fabio Di Giannantonio.

With the new regulations approaching rapidly, Tech3’s manufacturer decision is expected to become one of the defining factors shaping the MotoGP 2027 competitive landscape, both technically and commercially.
