Stella: Briatore's Allegations Insult McLaren's Reputation
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Stella was angered by claims made by Alpine boss Flavio Briatore

Andrea Stella, McLaren team principal, was forced to defend his team's integrity and the FIA Court of Appeal in a heated press conference at the Italian Grand Prix. The tension was sparked by Flavio Briatore, Alpine's boss, who accused the court judge of bias and having links to McLaren.

The controversy stems from a 10-second penalty that was initially removed for Pierre Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix. McLaren and Red Bull appealed, and the International Court of Appeal reinstated the penalty, benefiting Oscar Piastri with two additional points.

In an unusual press conference, Briatore launched a tirade against the judge, calling him "very nasty" and insinuating bias. Stella, seated next to Briatore, firmly denied the allegations, calling them insulting to McLaren's reputation.

"I find this conference going in a direction quite insulting for McLaren, for the reputation of a team that deserves a lot of respect," Stella said. "If anyone makes these kinds of serious allegations, they will have to take responsibility for what they say in a public forum."

Stella emphasized that the hearing was conducted to the highest standards and should not be questioned. "We welcome the decision because it brings clarity to the application of regulations, which is fundamental to the sport," he added.

He also clarified that the appeal was not just about two points, but about ensuring sporting equality and fairness. "We were concerned about the application of sporting equality and fairness, and this is important not only for McLaren but for all teams present at the hearing," Stella explained.

With this ruling, McLaren regained lost points, strengthening their position in the constructors' standings. However, the clash between Briatore and Stella adds drama in the paddock, reminding that on-track rivalry often continues in the press room.
