Sportrik Media WRC Finland 2026 Prediction: Sebastien Ogier Favourite as Elfyn Evans Threatens

Sportrik Media’s prediction places Sebastien Ogier as the strongest candidate to win WRC Finland 2026 after SS11, but pressure from Elfyn Evans means the victory battle remains far from settled as the rally moves deeper into Saturday.

Ogier started Saturday with a 16.3-second advantage after successfully managing Friday’s extreme rain. Evans immediately responded on SS11 Parkkola 1, however, setting the fastest time and taking 3.3 seconds out of his team-mate. Ogier’s margin was reduced to 13.0 seconds, showing that Friday’s advantage is not yet large enough for him to adopt a fully conservative approach.

The strongest factor in Ogier’s favour is his consistency across changing conditions. While Friday’s torrential rain created major time swings for several rivals, Ogier maintained his pace without suffering a significant setback. He has also demonstrated an ability to manage his advantage when required, notably on SS9, before again coming under direct pressure from Evans on Saturday.

Evans represents the primary threat because his SS11 pace suggests that the higher-grip conditions can change the dynamics of the fight. With seven special stages still remaining on Saturday after SS11, a 13-second deficit remains recoverable if Evans can sustain the same level of attack. Ogier has openly encouraged his team-mate to keep pushing, making the battle between the two Toyota drivers the central contest for victory.

Sami Pajari cannot yet be discounted. He finished only 0.6 seconds behind Evans on SS11 and sits 24.0 seconds away from Ogier. His pace on Friday had previously brought him to within just 3.3 seconds of the lead before a demister problem on Sydänmaa cost him around 35 seconds to Oliver Solberg. Pajari’s current deficit therefore does not entirely reflect his outright speed during the rally.

Pajari’s position is not completely secure either, with Solberg still behind him. Although the Saarikas rain effectively destroyed Solberg’s realistic chance of fighting Ogier after he lost almost a minute, the gap to Pajari still leaves room for the podium battle to develop through Saturday. A return to the victory fight would require a significant change in the rally dynamics or problems for the crews ahead.

Based on the pattern through SS11, Sportrik Media predicts Ogier as the leading favourite to win WRC Finland 2026, with Evans the most realistic challenger. Pajari remains capable of capitalising on the battle ahead of him but needs to begin reducing the deficit during Saturday’s stages. With conditions now more consistent than on Friday, the next phase should place greater emphasis on outright pace, rhythm and avoiding mistakes.
