Should Oliver Bearman Leave Ferrari? F1 Future Dilemma

Oliver Bearman stands at a crossroads. Martin Brundle's suggestion during the Hungarian Grand Prix broadcast that the 21-year-old "may need a Plan B" has sparked a major debate about his Formula 1 future.

Bearman is a product of the Ferrari Driver Academy, which fast-tracked him from F3 and F2 to a sensational debut as a stand-in for Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. That path led him to a full-time seat at Ferrari customer team Haas this season.

But there is a big problem. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are "nailed on at Ferrari for a while," as Brundle put it, meaning the door to Maranello is firmly shut for Bearman in the near term.

Bearman himself is aware of the situation. He said on the Beyond The Grid podcast, "I don't want to be sitting around for three, four, five years waiting for a seat to become available." Yet he remains loyal: "Ferrari is the dream team. My goal remains to be a Ferrari driver one day."

The question is whether Bearman should stay patient or start looking elsewhere. The pressure of an F1 career is real—youth is no guarantee. Waiting too long could see opportunities slip away.

On the other hand, leaving the Ferrari orbit carries significant risk. The technical support and driver development from the Italian manufacturer are valuable assets not every young driver gets. This decision will define his career trajectory for years to come.
