WRC driver Martins Sesks expressed deep disappointment after crashing out of Rally Finland, despite showing promising pace before the incident. His performance on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning had suggested a strong result was within reach.

"We can take a lot of positives from Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. It's a shame the rally ended so early. I believe I still had a lot more to offer," said Sesks, who had been targeting a podium finish.

"Of course it was disappointing to finish the rally that way. But as we saw, Rally Finland claimed a lot of cars this year," he added, referring to the high attrition rate.

The 2025 Rally Finland proved to be exceptionally eventful. Sebastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans both suffered heavy crashes, while several other drivers also ran into trouble. According to Sesks, one factor explains the unusually high number of accidents.

"I think the rally was incredibly, incredibly fast overall. The pace of the drivers and the performance of the cars were both at an exceptionally high level this year," he analyzed.

The retirement was particularly frustrating because Sesks had been looking forward to tackling the second pass of the later stages. With the current Rally1 regulations coming to an end, he knows these cars will not compete on the Finnish roads again.

"That's exactly what makes it so disappointing. I really wanted to drive yesterday's stages for a second time. They were absolutely fantastic," he said.

Sesks will skip the upcoming South American rounds in Paraguay and Chile before returning to WRC action at Rally Italy Sardinia in October, hoping to bounce back with a strong result. Reported by RallyJournal, his performance in Finland showed great potential that unfortunately went unrewarded.
