JWRC driver Kerem Kazaz suffered a serious crash on the opening stage of Rally Chile, forcing him and co-driver Corentin Silvestre to be airlifted to hospital for further medical checks. The incident occurred on the gravel rally, adding drama to the JWRC title decider this weekend.
Kazaz, a 20-year-old Turkish driver, lost control of his car on a fast corner during the first stage. Medical personnel attended the scene immediately, and both crew members were transported by helicopter to a local hospital for precautionary examinations. Event organisers confirmed the evacuation was a safety measure.
“Both crew members have been assessed by the local medical team and are being transported via helicopter to a local hospital for precautionary medical checks,” the organisers stated.
This season, Kazaz has shown promise with a best JWRC result of fourth at Rally Finland. He currently sits sixth in the junior championship standings, with enough points to be competitive. However, this crash is a significant setback for his campaign.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the JWRC title fight, which will be decided in Chile. Sweden’s Calle Carlberg leads the championship by just three points over Turkey’s Ali Turkkan. With Kazaz out of the running, the battle between the two leaders intensifies, and every second will count.
