Heading into the Formula 1 race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Red Bull has surprisingly emerged as the only front-running team bringing significant performance updates to the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. Amidst the unique cooling challenges posed by the high-altitude venue, the Milton Keynes squad has not only reworked their engine cover to enhance radiator airflow, but they have also introduced a revised sidepod design and a new floor-to-sidepod split line on the RB22.
The newly developed parts are attached to the existing sidepod geometry with the core objective of refining flow characteristics directly beneath the radiator duct inlet. Through this aerodynamic tweak, engineers are aiming to secure local downforce gains while maintaining overall car stability. This aggressive development push underscores their determination to sustain momentum following dominant performances by Max Verstappen in recent rounds.
Despite the technical push, the four-time world champion insisted that he couldn't care less about the ongoing fight for second place in the drivers' standings. Currently sitting just five points behind Lewis Hamilton and six behind George Russell, Verstappen's primary motivation remains focused on helping his squad fend off rivals for third in the constructors' championship.

"I don’t really care, because it’s only about first. So for me, I don’t care if I’m second or fifth," Verstappen stated regarding the runner-up battle. "The only thing that we want to try and achieve is to be P3 in the constructors’. That’s what I think the team wants, so that’s what we’ll try to do."
The Dutchman also added that numerous adjustments are still in the pipeline as they strive to bring the car's behavior more together for the future. Aside from Red Bull, the only other outfit introducing performance hardware in Mexico is Audi, featuring an updated rear brake duct deflector on their R26. These updates set the stage for a compelling tactical battle on track.
