Red Bull Admits Complex F1 2026 Issue Leaving Max Verstappen Waiting for Fix
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Max Verstappen will have to wait for a fix to a "complex" Red Bull issue

Max Verstappen faces a lengthy wait for Red Bull to resolve the most complex technical hurdle that has continuously troubled their campaign throughout the 2026 Formula 1 season. Both Verstappen and his teammate Isack Hadjar encountered severe frustration after executing poor starts that immediately cost them valuable ground on the opening lap of Sunday's United States Grand Prix.

The four-time world champion was cleanly overtaken by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc through the opening sequence of corners, while Hadjar immediately slipped behind both Ferrari cars after dropping down from his impressive third place on the starting grid. To compound their difficult afternoon, both drivers simultaneously battled persistent radio malfunctions that severely restricted communication with the Red Bull pitwall.

Despite the troublesome race handling and communication setbacks, Verstappen managed to salvage a respectable third-place finish, with Hadjar crossing the line in fifth. While the team remains confident of swiftly resolving the radio glitches, the launch performance issue presents a completely different challenge.

We are all frustrated to struggle for the second race in a row with the radio issues, and it is making everyone's lives very difficult, stated Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies. So, it is true that it is something that would like to be fixed quite quickly, because it is an item that should be working without using too much of our energy.

However, addressing the start problem requires a much broader, long-term engineering overhaul that may not debut until next season. Mekies explained that launch performance touches almost every technical department within the factory environment, creating a multifaceted puzzle for the reigning world champions.

The start is a slightly more complex issue to solve, meaning that the start performance is going across pretty much all the departments of the company, probably except aerodynamics, Mekies detailed. It is the engine, it is the gearbox, it is the clutch, and it is many things combined together.
