Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, has officially joined Red Bull's driver development program starting in 2027. The decision follows Robin's promising performances in both national and international karting competitions, including Rotax and WSK series.
Robin's karting career has already caught the attention of many, with his speed, racecraft, and maturity on track deemed exceptional for his age. Red Bull's management has chosen not to burden him with excessive expectations, instead allowing him to develop naturally.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies emphasized the focus on long-term development. "Robin has already shown exceptional ability in karting. His speed, racecraft, and natural talent have made him one of the most promising young drivers in his age group," Mekies said. "We will develop him step by step, without putting unnecessary pressure on him. The path through motorsport is long, and we will give him the time and support he needs."

This move strengthens the connection between the Raikkonen name and Formula 1, more than two decades after Kimi made his Grand Prix debut with Sauber in 2001. Kimi himself has recorded 21 wins and 103 podiums over a career spanning 19 F1 seasons, including the 2007 world championship with Ferrari.
Kimi welcomed Red Bull's decision and believes the junior program is the right environment for Robin's development. "We are all very happy and excited that Robin has been chosen to continue his racing path as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team," Kimi said. "Red Bull offers a comprehensive program to develop his natural talent, which has been clearly displayed in karting."
With Robin's addition, the Red Bull Junior Team further strengthens its reputation as a breeding ground for future talents. The program has previously produced names like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. Now, all eyes will be on Robin's progress in the coming years.
