The Formula 1 race weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace immediately flared up with paddock drama following the practice sessions. Rookie Rafael Camara found himself summoned before the FIA stewards following a tense near-miss incident involving Scuderia Ferrari star driver Charles Leclerc.

The dramatic flashpoint unfolded during the second practice session at the iconic Interlagos circuit when the young Brazilian driver inadvertently blocked the Monegasque ace while he was fully committed to a high-speed flying lap.

The FIA stewarding panel, comprising Nish Shetty, Loic Bacquelaine, Tonio Liuzzi, and Felipe Maluhi, immediately called in the Ferrari junior to explain the erratic move that triggered a wave of tension throughout the pit lane during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend.

According to the official FIA bulletin, car number 51 driven by Camara had been repeatedly warned over the team radio that car number 16 was approaching fast behind. However, the rookie drifted across the track and executed weaving movements directly into the racing line.

The governing body noted that Leclerc was forced to take evasive action to the right, putting a significant portion of his car off the asphalt to narrowly avert a high-speed collision. The stewards emphasized that the resulting situation was undeniably dangerous and warranted a stricter penalty than usual.

While standard penalties for blocking during free practice sessions typically result in a simple reprimand warning, the panel ruled that a formal reprimand was fully justified in this case. Accumulating multiple reprimands of this nature can trigger severe grid drop penalties ranging from one to several places for future races.
