Pedrosa: Marquez's DNA Suits Leading More Than Chasing

Dani Pedrosa didn't hold back when analysing Marc Marquez's masterclass at the San Marino MotoGP. The Spanish legend suggested that Marquez's DNA is better suited to leading the championship than chasing it, following his victory at Misano.

“Under pressure, Marc is a phenomenon. He managed to cut more points at this circuit, not only from Bezzecchi who crashed today, but also from Martin, who didn't have an ideal weekend, although yesterday he saved it well with that third place,” Pedrosa told DAZN. “But in the end, Marc took the most points. A great race today, and he reacted very well because he had immense pressure from Alex.”

According to Pedrosa, the key to Marquez's win was his incredible focus throughout the weekend. “Marc was so focused because the whole weekend was centred on the two of them. He was so fixated on what Bezzecchi would do, on what he could do against Bezzecchi, that when Bezzecchi crashed, all possible plans fell apart and he had to reset, rethink the race in a different way. And as the leader, he had to read the race,” he explained.

Pedrosa also highlighted how Marquez exploited the critical moment after Bezzecchi's exit. “He probably followed the pit board. At that moment Martin took the lead, but he understood that Alex was not far behind and tried to keep the leading group compact. Then, when he regained his feeling, he brought out the best version of Marc at Misano to take the win,” he added.

He also praised third-place finisher Pedro Acosta. “Pedro Acosta rode a fantastic race, capping off the weekend with another great result after Aragon. This shows his consistency as a rookie,” Pedrosa commended.

Over at Aprilia, the outcome was less satisfying. Bezzecchi made a mistake that left him in the gravel, while Jorge Martin struggled physically and finished fifth. “Jorge didn't have an ideal weekend, although yesterday he saved it well with third place. But still, this is not the performance he wants to fight Marc's current speed,” Pedrosa admitted.

With this result, Marquez now leads the standings, tied on points with Martin. Pedrosa believes that Marquez's rivals are helping him with their mistakes. “Bezzecchi makes many mistakes, maybe Martin too, not as many as Bezzecchi, but perhaps not the performance Jorge would like to have to battle with Marc's speed right now. And Marc is taking all the points he earns himself, but also those gifted by his rivals,” he concluded.
