Pedro Clerot claimed his maiden Formula 3 Feature Race victory in Madrid after a race full of drama and chaos. The Brazilian driver capitalized on his front-row start to overtake pole-sitter Taito Kato at Turn 1 and never relinquished the lead until the chequered flag.
The race was marred by a huge incident on the opening lap. Enzo Deligny and Bruno Del Pino collided, triggering a pile-up that eliminated six drivers. Gladysz, Garfias, Shin, and Barrichello were also unable to continue. Fortunately, all drivers escaped unharmed. After a red flag, the race resumed with a rolling start behind the safety car.
With overtaking notoriously difficult around the narrow Madring circuit, track position proved crucial. Clerot made the most of his clean air, building a 1.2-second lead over Kato by Lap 4, while Tuukka Taponen in third could only watch. For Frederik Vesti, it was a day to forget. The TRIDENT driver spun and stopped on track, causing a second safety car. This incident destroyed his chances of scoring crucial points and closing the gap in the championship. Meanwhile, his teammate Nikola Tsolov also struggled to finish outside the points.
Clerot's victory marks a significant milestone in his career. He displayed composure amid the chaos and managed the race expertly. Kato, who finished second, still leads the standings, but his advantage over Clerot and Taponen is shrinking. Taponen completed the podium, proving his consistency this season.
With this result, the title fight intensifies ahead of the final race. Clerot is now in a stronger position to challenge Kato, while Vesti must recover from this setback. Madrid witnessed how a single incident can change the fortunes of many drivers in an instant.
