Uncertainty grips the MotoGP paddock as riders and team managers held a critical meeting at the Sepang International Circuit to discuss strict conditions for traveling to Doha. Amid ongoing regional tensions, the competitors are refusing to make the trip without official written safety assurances from the governing bodies.
During Wednesday's gathering, the riders formally demanded comprehensive written guarantees covering emergency evacuation protocols, insurance coverage in case airspace is suddenly closed, and repatriation guarantees during unforeseen crises. Despite these serious concerns, local organizers in Qatar are pushing forward to host the event as planned.
A major stumbling block in the negotiations is the allocation of responsibility. The riders insist that MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, the commercial rights holder, must step up and shoulder the liability for these safety measures. Nevertheless, the organization has indicated that fulfilling the request in the exact manner demanded remains a significant challenge.
Attention has now shifted toward Carlos Ezpeleta, who returned from high-level emergency meetings in Doha to help break the deadlock. Stakeholders across the paddock expect a definitive compromise within the next 48 hours to provide absolute clarity before teams depart from Malaysia.
Contractual obligations and heavy financial implications continue to complicate any potential cancellation, leaving the championship management under immense pressure to balance commercial interests with the undeniable safety demands voiced by the starting grid.
