The race weekend at the Lusail International Circuit quickly turned into a nightmare for Pedro Acosta after the young Spanish rider failed to secure an automatic spot in the final qualifying phase. Piloting the factory RC16 machine, the talented youngster known as the Shark of Mazarron had to settle for a disappointing 14th place on the combined timesheets. This difficult situation unfolded right under the watchful eye of factory racing boss Pit Beirer, who witnessed firsthand how the performance gap widened significantly compared to the front-runners under the desert floodlights.
The primary issue that plagued the young star began when he attempted to maximize compound tire combinations during his time-attack runs. His lap time ended up trailing by more than a full second behind the sensational benchmark set by Fabio Di Giannantonio, who dominated the practice session. Ironically, his position within the manufacturer garage fell behind his brand peers, with Enea Bastianini successfully pushing up to sixth place and Brad Binder claiming tenth.
Addressing the minor setback that forces him to fight through Q1, the 22-year-old rider did not hide his frustration over a mysterious loss of rear grip. "I already expected that this would be a really tough weekend for us, but somehow something strange happened out there," the young rider explained regarding the baffling situation. He added that his base pace had actually felt quite promising earlier when utilizing used medium rear tires.

Technical complications peaked when the crew fitted soft rear tires in pursuit of a fast lap, triggering a drastic drop in performance. "The time attack with the medium front and soft rear combination was a pure disaster for me. I was fast with the medium rear tire, but really slow with the soft one, so something has to change now," he openly complained to the press.
The tricky situation facing the factory hopeful further tightens the battle for positions in the ongoing world championship standings. He currently remains under pressure in the points hunt, dealing with a significant deficit to rivals such as Marco Bezzecchi near the top. The pressure multiplies following an electronic glitch that forced him to park his motorcycle trackside during the final minutes of the opening free practice session.
