Sami Pajari delivered a commanding performance in the first half of day two at Rally Paraguay. The Toyota driver leads by 22.8 seconds over Hyundai’s Hayden Paddon, after a challenging morning loop. Despite losing part of his rear wing in a small off at SS11, Pajari stayed composed, conceding only 3.2 seconds to Paddon on SS12.
“You could definitely feel it when some of the aero was missing in the high-speed sections. I don’t know if you can call this confident in any way,” Pajari said. The changing grip levels were a key factor. Paddon echoed, “The grip is changing quite a lot, and I think the road is changing a lot as well. This loop has been a lot less complicated than we were all expecting.”
Behind them, Elfyn Evans of Toyota sits third, 55.5 seconds off the lead. The championship leader appears fairly comfortable. Meanwhile, Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai) is fourth, more than half a minute behind Evans ahead of the afternoon stages.
Fierce Battle in Other Classes
Josh McErlean (M-Sport Ford) holds fifth, ahead of Toyota’s Oliver Solberg. In WRC2, home favourite Diego Dominguez leads the category and sits seventh overall. Gus Greensmith is his closest challenger, half a minute behind.
Five stages remain on Saturday at Rally Paraguay. The competition is set to intensify, especially if Pajari aims to hold off the charging Paddon until Sunday’s finish. Can he maintain his lead?
