Leopard Racing rider Adrian Fernandez secured the top spot in the first free practice (FP1) of Moto3 at the Mugello circuit. Fernandez clocked a time of 2 minutes 09.930 seconds, beating Joel Esteban of Level Up - MTA and Maximo Quiles from CFMoto Aspar Team, who rounded out the top three.
Technically, the track conditions were the primary variable in this session, as the surface remained damp following overnight rain. At the start of the session, riders adopted a cautious approach to avoid crashes in the wet areas. As the session progressed, the racing line began to dry, providing a significant increase in traction and allowing riders to achieve higher acceleration exiting the corners.
Indonesian rider Veda Ega Pratama of Honda Team Asia finished the session in 20th position, 3.024 seconds slower than Fernandez. Veda showed promising early pace, holding a top-five position during the first five minutes of the session. However, his ranking dropped as other riders successfully identified a drier racing line, allowing them to significantly increase their peak speeds.

An analysis of the top three indicates that Fernandez, Esteban, and Quiles were the most adept at reading the evolving track conditions. Maximo Quiles, the current championship leader, demonstrated consistent performance despite the non-ideal surface. The ability to balance speed in the damp sections with acceleration in the drying sectors was the decisive factor in their FP1 dominance.
Beyond the top three, Hakim Danish from AEON Credit also displayed competitive form, leading the session during the first half before eventually finishing eighth. This suggests that the competitive landscape at Mugello will heavily rely on a rider's ability to manage tire grip on a surface with inconsistent temperatures and moisture levels.
According to the regulations, the combined results of FP1 and the subsequent practice session will determine which riders qualify directly for the second qualifying stage (Q2) or must proceed through the first qualifying session (Q1). For Veda Ega Pratama, the upcoming practice session is a critical opportunity to improve his lap time and secure a more competitive starting position for the main race.
