Marc Marquez reclaimed the MotoGP 2026 championship lead with a dominant fifth win of the season at Misano, leaving Aprilia to ponder what might have been. The Spaniard's victory at the San Marino Grand Prix completed a stunning comeback from a 102-point deficit after missing the Barcelona round for shoulder surgery. Now on 274 points, level with Jorge Martin but ahead on countback, Marquez has all the momentum.

For Aprilia, Misano was supposed to be a turning point. Pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi grabbed the lead early but crashed at Turn 13 on the opening lap, throwing away a golden opportunity. He now trails Marquez and Martin by 33 points. While that gap is not insurmountable in the sprint era, it marks his fifth non-score in the last seven Sunday races – a worrying trend.

Jorge Martin's race also ended in disappointment, as an unexpected arm pump issue forced him to consider surgery. Aprilia had a clear bike advantage at Misano but failed to convert it into a win, a stark contrast to their last victory at Mugello.

The pressure is mounting on Aprilia to turn things around. On the latest Crash MotoGP Podcast, Amy Reynolds, Lewis Duncan, and Peter McLaren discuss the situation. They highlight how Marquez is piling on the psychological pressure, while Bezzecchi must find consistency fast to stay in the title fight.

Meanwhile, Pecco Bagnaia's struggles continued with a third consecutive DNF, compounding his woes. On a brighter note, Nicolo Bulega's move to VR46 was confirmed, and his unconventional path to MotoGP was a hot topic.

With 37 points available each weekend, Aprilia's title hopes are not dead yet. But unless they solve their consistency issues and handle the pressure from Marquez, Misano could be remembered as the beginning of the end.
