Scott McLaughlin secured a stunning pole position for the IndyCar race at Laguna Seca on Sunday, edging out championship leader Alex Palou by a razor-thin margin.
The New Zealander's final flying lap was good enough to snatch the top spot, marking his third pole of the season and setting up a prime opportunity to claim his first win of the year.
Nail-Biting Qualifying Battle
The knockout format kept drivers on edge throughout the session. Felix Rosenqvist looked strong but ultimately had to settle for third, while Alexander Rossi and Christian Lundgaard completed the top five.
Lundgaard, however, will drop six places on the grid due to an engine change penalty, promoting David Malukas to fifth.
Andretti's Hopes Dashed in Fast Six
Kyle Kirkwood narrowly missed advancing to the final round, while Marcus Ericsson and Kyffin Simpson secured spots further down the order. Pato O'Ward and Will Power were eliminated early, and Scott Dixon's final qualifying run with Chip Ganassi Racing fell short of expectations.
