Formula 1, Sportrik Media – McLaren F1 Team has officially confirmed that it will unveil its Formula 1 2026 challenger on 9 February at the Bahrain International Circuit, making the Woking-based squad the last team on the grid to disclose its launch plans ahead of the opening pre-season test.
The announcement places McLaren at the end of the 2026 reveal calendar despite the team entering the new regulatory era as the two-time defending Constructors’ World Champion, having secured the titles in 2024 and 2025 under markedly different competitive circumstances. The delayed reveal highlights McLaren’s deliberate approach as it prepares to defend both championships in a field reset by the new technical regulations.

In 2024, McLaren edged Scuderia Ferrari to the Constructors’ crown by just 14 points, before delivering a far more dominant campaign in 2025. Last season the Woking outfit outpaced its rivals comprehensively, with Mercedes AMG Petronas emerging as best of the rest but finishing 364 points adrift, underlining the scale of McLaren’s competitive advantage.
McLaren also reclaimed the Drivers’ World Championship for the first time since 2008, when Lewis Hamilton last achieved the feat for the team. Lando Norris secured the 2025 title after a season-long duel with Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, edging the reigning champion by just two points in one of the closest finales in recent Formula 1 history.
Norris’ team-mate Oscar Piastri, who had led the standings for much of the season, ultimately finished 13 points behind, reinforcing McLaren’s strength as a dual-title contender but also highlighting the fine margins that shaped the intra-team championship dynamic.
With its Bahrain launch now scheduled just ahead of the first official three-day pre-season test, McLaren will soon reveal how it has translated its dominant 2025 platform into a car capable of thriving under the radically revised 2026 technical rules. How effectively the reigning champions manage that transition will be one of the defining questions of the new era, closely tracked by Sportrik Media at https://sportrik.com.
