A legendary cross-discipline showdown takes center stage this weekend as Max Verstappen and Valentino Rossi prepare to lock horns in the top-tier Pro category during the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup finale at Portimao. The high-profile entry from both motorsport icons highlights a massive 61-car grid ready to battle it out.
Beyond the driver rivalry, the technical contrast between their respective machines is fascinating. Verstappen joins the Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing effort behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, which features a thunderous naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V8 M159 engine producing roughly 550 horsepower before regulatory adjustments.
Meanwhile, the opposition takes a fundamentally different route under the Team WRT banner. Rossi pilots the No. 46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six P58 engine derived from its road-going counterpart, pumping out up to 590 horsepower prior to strict Balance of Performance equalization parameters.
Although the BMW holds a nominal power advantage on paper, the governing body applies Balance of Performance rules to neutralize discrepancies, ensuring neither vehicle carries an unfair aerodynamic or mechanical edge. Both racing weapons utilize front-mounted engines paired with rear-wheel drive and sequential gearboxes, requiring supreme technical mastery from everyone on the grid.
Verstappen enters the weekend with a brief yet flawless GT3 resume following his debut victory at the Nurburgring NLS9 event, whereas Rossi brings extensive endurance racing pedigree alongside his factory BMW teammates. This weekend's finale at Portimao promises an unforgettable clash of titans.
