The Formula 1 weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez brought another wave of frustration for Max Verstappen regarding his ongoing race-start struggles. The reigning world champion found himself venting over the team radio following practice sessions, highlighting a persistent weakness that continues to plague the Red Bull Racing squad as they attempt to optimize their car's initial acceleration off the line.
Poor launch performance has been a recurring headache for the Dutch driver throughout the season. Having previously addressed various technical gremlins and radio communication glitches during the race weekend in Texas, the four-time world champion hoped for improvements in Mexico. However, practice starts conducted at the end of the second practice session only served to amplify his dissatisfaction with the car's launch behavior.
Via the team radio, the 73-time Grand Prix winner delivered a sarcastic and vivid description of his experience to the pit wall. "I can start faster on foot than with this racing car. I mean, I did a practice start from the pit lane and it was a disaster. I did a practice start on the main straight and it was another disaster," he remarked candidly over the airwaves following the disappointing practice runs.

Continuing his satirical critique, the star driver even quipped about altering the traditional starting protocol entirely to bypass the complex technical hurdles. "Why don't we change something? I might as well do a start like they used to do in Le Mans back in the day, you know. I run to the car, push it and jump inside. And then I start the race," he added, underscoring the deep-seated mechanical woes.
Addressing the complex situation, team principal Laurent Mekies explained that resolving the launch difficulties is far from straightforward due to the delicate interplay between the engine, turbocharger, clutch, and gearbox. The engineering team concedes that a definitive fix will likely require comprehensive hardware and software modifications down the road, leaving the crew to manage the tricky launch phases carefully.
