Tension between Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson has officially cleared up after both drivers held a face-to-face meeting on Saturday morning in the paddock of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The controversial contact during the second free practice session of the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix previously sparked intense debates across the motorsport community. Verstappen, who qualified fourth but was handed a one-place grid penalty, confirmed that he and the young Kiwi driver smoothed things over to maintain harmony within the Red Bull family.
Earlier, the reigning world champion had expressed heavy frustration in the media pen on Friday, openly stating that he had no idea what went through his rival's head. The atmosphere in the garage grew tense as the battle for future Formula 1 seats heats up. However, following their morning conversation, the air was cleared. Lawson took the initiative to visit the garage and personally apologize for an incident that compromised both drivers during practice.
"Obviously, it's not ideal and something that should never happen in practice," Lawson reflected when speaking to the press. "I went to see Max this morning to apologise, because obviously it was never my intention to make contact. It is not good for both of us, and I will learn from it going forward." Meanwhile, Verstappen accepted the stewards' grid penalty calmly, noting that while decisions can always be debated, he has already said everything that needed to be said internally.

When asked by reporters about who deserves the coveted Racing Bulls seat for the upcoming season, the star driver for Red Bull Racing kept his cards close to his chest. He admitted that the sheer amount of emerging talent makes any final lineup decision extremely difficult for management. With Sunday's race fast approaching, Verstappen's primary focus remains locked on maximizing his race pace and securing vital championship points.
