Marc Marquez fended off a relentless Marco Bezzecchi to clinch a tense Sprint race victory at Misano, edging closer to the championship lead. The Ducati Lenovo rider grabbed the holeshot from pole-sitter Bezzecchi and controlled the pace to take his sixth Sprint win of the season.
Bezzecchi, riding in front of his home crowd, attacked hard and closed the gap, but Marquez responded perfectly to keep him at bay. The pair opted for different rear tyre compounds, with Bezzecchi on the medium and Marquez on the soft. Despite the theoretically less durable choice, Marquez made the soft tyre work to his advantage, pulling away early and managing the gap to the finish.
Jorge Martin completed the podium after overtaking Fabio Di Giannantonio for third. The Aprilia rider, who leads the championship, finished 1.794 seconds behind Marquez. The result intensifies the title fight as Marquez continues to chip away at Martin's lead.
Fabio Quartararo's race ended in disaster as he crashed while trying to pass Diogo Moreira for eleventh, rejoining to finish last. Francesco Bagnaia struggled to 13th, a disappointing outcome for the factory Ducati rider. Meanwhile, Bezzecchi's pole position, secured with a record-breaking 1m29s lap, showed his raw speed, but he couldn't convert it into a win.
The stage is set for Sunday's Grand Prix, where Bezzecchi will look to strike back and Marquez aims to continue his momentum. With the title race heating up, every point counts.
