Marc Marquez has seized the MotoGP 2026 World Championship lead for the first time this season after completing a double victory at Misano. The Ducati Lenovo rider now sits atop the standings, tied on points with Jorge Martin but ahead on countback.
Marquez's journey to the top has been a remarkable comeback. Earlier in the year, he trailed by 102 points, but a relentless charge has seen him erase the deficit. His latest win, combined with Martin's fifth-place finish, propelled him to the summit.
With both riders on 274 points, Marquez's five Grand Prix wins this season outweigh Martin's single victory, putting the reigning champion officially in front. Martin, who had led the championship since Assen, now finds himself in second place.
The Misano weekend was a disaster for Marco Bezzecchi. The Aprilia Racing rider crashed out of the lead on the opening lap, leaving him 33 points adrift in third. His hopes of challenging for the title took a significant blow.
Behind them, the battle is intensifying. Fabio di Giannantonio holds fourth with 223 points, just 18 ahead of Bezzecchi. Pedro Acosta is fifth on 209, while Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez are separated by just four points in sixth and seventh.
Further back, Francesco Bagnaia's struggles continue. The Ducati Lenovo rider is ninth with 143 points, 131 behind Marquez. His team-mate's dominance contrasts sharply with his own difficulties, raising questions about his form.
As the championship moves into its next phase, Marquez has the momentum. But with 11 rounds remaining, Martin and Bezzecchi will be pushing hard to close the gap. The battle for the 2026 MotoGP crown is far from over.
