Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has revealed the advice he gave Red Bull Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar, after the latter missed the Dutch Grand Prix with a wrist injury. Hadjar withdrew from the Zandvoort weekend after sustaining a small fracture during a boxing session in his training regime, paving the way for Liam Lawson to step in at Racing Bulls.
With the Italian Grand Prix at Monza looming, Hadjar is expected to recover in time. But the decision to sit out was not easy. French media reported that Hadjar had sought counsel from Marquez, a rider who knows all too well the perils of pushing through pain. The Ducati star missed the entire 2020 season after a severe right arm injury that required four major operations.
Speaking to the official MotoGP website at Aragon on Thursday, Marquez said his advice was simple: don't risk worsening an injury for the sake of one race. "Worsening your injury can change your life," he said, drawing from his own experience. He emphasized that missing one race will not define a career, but rushing back can have lasting consequences.
Hadjar contacted me directly," Marquez revealed. "I'm not a doctor, of course, but just for advice because sometimes for a rider, or a driver in this case, it's super difficult to accept that you will miss a race. But I learned in the past that missing one race will not change your life. My life changed a lot since the Jerez injury, so I tried to give that advice to Isack, and I think he took the correct decision because he has a long career in front."
The MotoGP veteran has previously used his experience to mentor other riders, including Jorge Martin during his challenging 2025 season. Marquez's willingness to share his hard-earned wisdom highlights the camaraderie that exists even among fierce competitors.
As Hadjar prepares for Monza, the advice from a seven-time MotoGP champion may prove invaluable. For Marquez, it's another chapter in a career marked by resilience and a deep understanding of the physical and mental demands of motorsport.
