Marc Marquez stamped his authority on the opening day of the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit by setting the pace in both practice sessions. The Ducati Lenovo Team star showed immense speed despite suffering a minor crash in the afternoon, signaling a shift in his championship approach as he targets the maximum haul of 37 points this weekend.
From his very first laps aboard the Ducati Desmosedici, the Spanish rider felt instantly comfortable. Although a tumble at turn 15 caused some frustration, it did little to dent his confidence or the impressive pace he demonstrated throughout the day.
“It was a perfect Friday. Sepang is a track where some years I am competitive right away and other years I struggle from the start. Today, however, I felt good from the first lap, especially with the rear tire brought by Michelin. Apart from that small crash at turn 15, where I took a bit too much risk, it was a perfect day,” Marquez stated.

The factory Ducati rider admitted his primary annoyance was the disruption the fall caused to his run plan, though quick work in the pit lane allowed him to resume his program with minimal delay after minor setup tweaks.
With the title fight entering its decisive phase, Marquez has deliberately chosen a more aggressive mindset compared to earlier in the season, fueled by his improved physical condition and the urgency of the championship standings.
