The World Supersport (WorldSSP) paddock is gearing up for a major seismic shift ahead of the 2027 season. Japanese manufacturer Suzuki is officially slated to make a high-profile comeback to the intermediate class. This dramatic return comes on the heels of a massive overhaul by the Motozoo squad, which has opted to completely sever ties with MV Agusta following a disastrous and uncompetitive campaign.
Throughout the previous season, the Italian F3 800 machinery struggled immensely to match the pace of the front-runners. Aside from a lone points-scoring finish by Andrea Giombini during a rain-soaked race at Phillip Island, the team failed to break into the top twenty across 23 other races. Team manager Fabio Uccelli admitted that the dismal results forced management to re-evaluate their entire project, leading to a swift roster and manufacturer change.
Switching to the Suzuki GSX-R750 platform marks a historic reunion for the Hamamatsu factory, which has not competed in a full WorldSSP season since 2013 with the Suriano team, only making sporadic wildcard appearances sinceāsuch as Rhys Irwin's outing at Donington Park in 2023. Uccelli emphasized that taking on this new technical challenge carries both immense responsibility and great excitement for the entire organization.

āFor us, this is much more than just a motorcycle change. It is the beginning of a project we firmly believe in, and we are proud to bring a brand like Suzuki back to the Supersport World Championship,ā stated Uccelli. āWe know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us, but that is precisely what makes this challenge so thrilling.ā
To spearhead the development of the new machine, Motozoo has secured the services of Mattia Casadei. The 2023 MotoE World Champion, who previously raced the second half of the season with the former MV Agusta squad, brings proven speed and valuable experience. His standout performances last year, including two pole positions and a fifth-place finish at the Jerez finale, convinced the team he is the ideal rider to lead their 2027 assault.
Meanwhile, the departure of MV Agusta closes a notable chapter in the championship. Once a consistent podium contender, the Italian marque saw its competitiveness dwindle over the last two years. With satellite teams previously jumping ship to Yamahaāwinning titles immediatelyāthe stage is now cleared for Suzuki and Motozoo to write an entirely new chapter in WorldSSP history.
