Arvid Lindblad once again showcased his talent. The young Racing Bulls driver finished ninth at the Madring GP, bringing home two valuable points, though he admitted the race was far from easy. Racing Bulls scored points again, but this time only one car made it into the top ten.
Starting from tenth, Lindblad had to work hard. He lost a position at the start but quickly regained it. However, he then found himself stuck in a DRS train with almost no opportunity to overtake. “I'm happy to have finished a demanding weekend by bringing home another two points,” said Lindblad. “We knew strategy would be crucial, but with the VSC almost everyone pitted, which reduced our room for manoeuvre.”
Strategy proved decisive. A mid-race VSC prompted almost all teams to pit early. Lindblad had to run the rest of the race on hard tyres, pushing to the limit to hold his position. “From that moment on, I pushed pretty much flat out for the rest of the race on the hard tyres. We maintained a good pace and for most of the race we were right behind Colapinto. I tried everything, managing the energy intelligently and varying its use to look for a gap; unfortunately, there was no real opportunity to overtake. It wasn't the most exciting race, but I think we can be satisfied with how we managed the weekend after Friday's setback.”
On the other side of the garage, Yuki Tsunoda endured a torrid race. The Japanese driver, standing in for Liam Lawson for the third consecutive Grand Prix, had to settle for 14th after starting 15th. His race almost ended at Turn 1 when a collision with Carlos Sainz damaged his car. “Today was not easy at all,” said Tsunoda. “My race almost ended at Turn 1, where I sustained heavy damage after the collision with Sainz; the impact on our race pace was significant. Considering the damage, I don't think the pace was that bad, but I lost some positions at the start. Since overtaking is very difficult on this track, there wasn't much chance to recover them. I gave my maximum and I really enjoyed being back behind the wheel. A big thank you to the team for giving me another opportunity this weekend.”
The result at Madring highlights that Racing Bulls remain competitive, but consistency is an issue. While at Monza and other races they managed to get both cars into the points, this time only Lindblad succeeded. Tsunoda, standing in for Lawson, showed speed but the early incident made his race an uphill battle.
For Lindblad, these two points are a valuable boost. He has now scored points in two consecutive races, proving he can maximise opportunities even in difficult conditions. Meanwhile, Tsunoda, despite missing out on points, earned praise for his fighting spirit. Racing Bulls will look to bounce back in the next race, hoping to get both cars back in the top ten.
