Liam Lawson says completing a full pre-season with Racing Bulls has been a major factor behind his strong momentum during the 2026 Formula 1 season.
This year marked the first time Lawson had spent the entire pre-season period with Racing Bulls. The opportunity came ahead of a major regulation overhaul, allowing him to take part in the car’s development programme from its earliest stages.
The situation was different in 2025, when Lawson completed pre-season with Red Bull before being moved back to Racing Bulls after two grands prix. That switch cost him valuable time to understand the Racing Bulls car from the beginning of the campaign.

The effect has been reflected in Lawson’s consistency this season. The New Zealander has scored points in seven of the opening nine grands prix and in two of the four Sprints, while Racing Bulls has emerged as the fifth-fastest team over the most recent rounds.
“Everything helps. Naturally, the more experience you have in anything, the more it helps,” Lawson said.
“But this year, especially with these new cars, doing all of the pre-season development makes a big difference. Being exactly aware of where we are focused and what we are developing on the car makes a major difference,” he added.
That understanding has given Lawson a stronger technical foundation to adapt his driving and provide more precise feedback. Racing Bulls’ next challenge will be maintaining that development direction across the coming races.
