Lewis Hamilton Resolves Ferrari Friction with Charles Leclerc

Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that internal tension within Scuderia Ferrari has subsided after he held private clear-the-air talks with team-mate Charles Leclerc. The discussion was arranged to resolve the aftermath of their opening-lap clash at the Mexico City Grand Prix ahead of the weekend action at Interlagos.

The friction stemmed from lap one at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez when Leclerc attempted an aggressive overtake on pole-sitter Hamilton. The maneuver forced both Ferrari cars wide, allowing Leclerc to re-join in the lead despite later receiving a five-second penalty. Hamilton dropped to third behind Max Verstappen and expressed strong frustration immediately after the race regarding the intensity of Leclerc's defending move.

Speaking after a rain-affected qualifying session at Interlagos, Hamilton explained that Team Principal Fred Vasseur did not need to act as a formal mediator between them. "Fred hasn’t cleared the air in the sense of me and Charles. We sat and spoke and we squashed it and we’re moving on," Hamilton explained, confirming that direct communication proved sufficient to resolve the matter, as reported by Motorsport.com.

The seven-time world champion emphasized that mutual respect remains intact between the pair. He noted that the discussion focused on constructiveness rather than blame, allowing both drivers to realign their focus toward team objectives. "I think we still have a huge amount of respect for each other. And I'm glad we had a chat. Now we move on along just fine as normal. It's just been both giving our points and areas that we can do better and support each other," Hamilton added.

Maintaining team cohesion is vital for Ferrari as both drivers face steep recovery drives in the main race. Severe grid penalties will force Hamilton to start from the very back of the grid following a complete power unit change, while Leclerc lines up in 14th position due to a 10-place grid penalty for fitted internal combustion engine components.
