Lewis Hamilton Defies Age Critics After Historic Pole Position at F1 Mexico City GP

The race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez delivered yet another masterclass from seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The British driver etched his name into the history books by securing a sensational pole position, establishing himself as the oldest driver to claim a pole since Mario Andretti's legendary feat at Monza in 1982. This remarkable achievement stands out brilliantly amidst a high-stakes championship battle where young contenders are constantly pushing the boundaries of modern Formula 1.

Addressing lingering questions from the media regarding his age and competitiveness, the Scuderia Ferrari star firmly dismissed the notion that veteran drivers inevitably lose their edge. Emphasizing that he operates on a different wavelength compared to traditional career timelines, Hamilton made it clear that this milestone feels less like a twilight achievement and more like the dawning of a fresh chapter in his illustrious motorsport journey.

"I feel like this is the beginning of something new, a brand-new phase in my career and in my life," Lewis Hamilton told reporters in the paddock. "To still be here, starting from the front, surrounded by all these guys in their twenties... I feel fantastic in both body and mind. I've taken pole positions with three different teams, which is quite phenomenal. Just thinking about all the questions people raise when you reach your forties... people tried to apply the mindset that the older you get, the slower you become. As I said on Thursday, I am built differently. You cannot compare me to others. I know I have much more to give inside, which is why I am here giving my absolute all.">

Reflecting on the meticulous preparations leading up to the qualifying session, the veteran driver credited a revamped working method with his engineers for unlocking the crucial pace needed around the Mexican venue. Arriving at the circuit days in advance allowed the team to fine-tune every single parameter without deviation.

"We tried and tried again, failed, and simply picked ourselves back up," Hamilton added. "I am working with a fresh group of people this year, engineers with whom I am constantly learning and sharing ideas. We support and encourage each other, and we arrived here with a completely different approach. I came in as early as Wednesday to sit down with them, map out a clear plan, and stick to it without wavering. I can't wait to head back to the garage and see them smile, because the wonderful thing about Italians is that they simply cannot hide their emotions, and that is fantastic.">
