Charles Leclerc has revealed he suffered from initial vision problems in the immediate aftermath of his huge Italian Grand Prix accident, and will undergo further precautionary checks ahead of next week's Spanish Grand Prix.
The incident occurred on Lap 3 at Monza, when Charles Leclerc was battling McLaren's Oscar Piastri around the Parabolica. Losing control, he speared into the barriers.
The Monegasque was able to climb out of the car unaided and was quickly attended to by FIA doctors trackside. He also made a mandatory trip to the medical centre after the G-sensors on his car were triggered. Although he was given a clean bill of health, Leclerc later admitted to initial vision problems following the impact.
"It was just my vision a little bit at first; the right eye was not showing me great vision," Leclerc told media, including RacingNews365. "But now it's all good. That's the thing I was most worried of getting out of the car; then, after that, everything was a bit of pain here and there, which is normal after a crash like this. So nothing more."
He also noted a difference in power delivery between the first and second laps before the crash. "I think from Lap 1 to Lap 2, I had a bit of a difference in power delivery. We'll look into it, but I don't want to comment too much before checking the data and confirm it," he added.
The crash marked a hugely disappointing outcome for Ferrari at its home event, having entered the round hoping to challenge at the front. Despite the frustration, Leclerc voiced hope for better fortunes in Madrid if cleared to race.
"This is obviously the biggest race of the year for the team, and a lot of fans here cheering for you. Yeah, it's very frustrating, but it's the way it is now. I cannot change the results. I'll have to look forward and hopefully bounce back in Madrid," he said.
"I think I'll have quite a few additional checks that we still have to do on my side, probably tonight and tomorrow to make sure that I'll be fully fine for Madrid. It should be the case, but yeah, better be safe than sorry," Leclerc concluded.
