Laurent Mekies Extends Red Bull F1 Team Principal Deal to 2031

Leadership stability at Milton Keynes has been secured as Laurent Mekies has officially signed a long-term contract extension, keeping him as the team principal of the Red Bull Formula 1 outfit until the end of the 2031 season. This strategic decision guarantees that the French manager will spend at least six full campaigns leading the Austrian squad, following his arrival in July 2025 to take over from long-standing boss Christian Horner.

Prior to taking charge of the senior Red Bull squad, Mekies successfully managed sister team Racing Bulls at the start of the 2024 campaign. His extensive motorsport CV also features a six-year tenure at Ferrari, where he served as both sporting director and racing director. This leadership continuity is viewed as a vital asset for Red Bull as they navigate complex technical regulation changes.

"I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with Oracle Red Bull Racing," stated Mekies, expressing gratitude to the team's shareholders and executive board for their unwavering trust in the project. He emphasized that the core strength of the organization lies in its unified pursuit of excellence and collaborative spirit among engineers and mechanics.

The announcement comes at an opportune time as Red Bull enjoys a late-season resurgence. After a relatively slow start adapting to the 2026 technical regulations, continuous car upgrades have propelled the team back to the front. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen triumphed from pole position in consecutive grands prix in Malaysia and Singapore, significantly closing the gap in the constructors' standings.

CEO Oliver Mintzlaff lauded Mekies for his exceptional leadership, combining sharp technical insight with strategic execution. With Verstappen committed through 2030 and sophomore talent Isack Hadjar slated to partner him in 2027, Red Bull has established an exceptionally strong platform for sustained success in Formula 1.
