Lando Norris will lead the provisional starting grid for the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix after penalties for Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli reshaped the leading positions.
Norris secured his first pole position since the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix after defeating Hamilton by just 0.012 seconds in qualifying at the Hungaroring. Charles Leclerc initially finished third, while Antonelli was the highest-placed Mercedes driver in fourth.
The order changed when Lewis Hamilton received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri during Q3. The sanction promoted Leclerc to second and moved Piastri onto the second row.
Kimi Antonelli was then handed his own three-place penalty for failing to slow sufficiently through a yellow-flag zone. The championship leader consequently dropped to seventh.
The two penalties promoted Piastri to third and Max Verstappen to fourth. Hamilton will start from fifth, while George Russell occupies sixth after his car suffered a water leak at the end of Q3.
Isack Hadjar, Arvid Lindblad and Nico Hulkenberg complete the top 10. Liam Lawson starts immediately outside that group, ahead of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto.
The starting grid for the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix remains provisional until it is officially confirmed by the FIA before the race at the Hungaroring.
