KTM is sharpening its middleweight naked weapon for 2027. The KTM 790 Duke now lives up to its 'The Scalpel' nickname more than ever, thanks to a much deeper update than a typical facelift. The Austrian manufacturer focused on the three aspects that matter most when a bike starts going fast: precision, feel, and control.

At first glance, the design changes are obvious. The 790 Duke 2027 adopts a look closer to the KTM 990 Duke and 1390 Super Duke R, with a new headlight, larger front section, sleeker bodywork, and a completely redesigned fuel tank. But it's not just about style; these changes also alter the riding position and chassis, aiming for a more natural response to every rider input.

The engine remains the familiar LC8c 799cc parallel-twin. For 2027, it's been updated to meet Euro 5+ emissions, but peak power stays at 105 HP for the standard version, while a 95 HP variant remains available for A2 license holders. KTM didn't need to change the basic engine formula; instead, they focused on making the whole package work better together.

One of the most significant updates is the riding position. The handlebar now has a wider angle, and the rider and passenger footpegs have been repositioned. A new seat, subframe, tank, and triple clamp are also part of the update. All of this is designed to provide a more natural posture and better communication with the front end. This matters because body position heavily influences front-end load, which ultimately determines how the bike turns and how much effort the rider needs to change direction.

The bike also sheds 2 kg, a number that might seem small, but it's significant for a machine that thrives on agility. Up front, there's a 43mm WP APEX inverted fork with 150mm travel, now with independent compression and rebound adjustment. At the rear, a gas-assisted WP APEX monoshock with 170mm travel handles the damping. Both have been updated for 2027, giving riders more flexibility to tune the bike's character. KTM also simplified the adjustment process, making it more user-friendly.

With all these updates, the 790 Duke 2027 is ready to maintain its reputation as a sharp, fun-to-ride naked bike, whether on the road or the track. The combination of lighter weight, improved chassis, and proven engine makes it a serious contender in its class.
