Kimi Antonelli claimed pole position for the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, putting Mercedes at the front of the grid for the main race.

Antonelli set a 1m28.111s to finish almost two tenths clear of Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver will start from the front row, while Lewis Hamilton secured third place on the grid.

The top-three order creates a direct strategic pressure point between Mercedes and Ferrari. Antonelli holds track-position advantage, but Ferrari has two cars inside the top three, making the start and opening stint central to how the race is shaped.

George Russell failed to find a major improvement on his final lap and had to settle for fourth. Behind him, Isack Hadjar delivered a strong result for Red Bull by taking fifth.

Lando Norris qualified sixth for McLaren, splitting Hadjar and Max Verstappen, who starts seventh. Oscar Piastri completed eighth place for McLaren.

The top 10 was completed by the two Racing Bulls drivers, Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson. That gives Racing Bulls a strong starting position, while Red Bull must again rely on race execution to challenge Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren.

Antonelli's pole continues his important Silverstone momentum after winning the Sprint. The next focus is whether Mercedes can manage Ferrari's front-row pressure, and whether Red Bull or McLaren can use race pace to re-enter the podium fight in the main Formula 1 race.
