Newly crowned Formula 1 world champion Kimi Antonelli has been handed a five-second time penalty following an unsafe release incident in the pit lane during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The incident occurred when the young Italian driver was released from his garage directly into the path of Franco Colapinto's car as it traveled down the fast lane. Slippery track conditions made pit lane operations particularly challenging for teams and drivers alike.
Following a thorough investigation, race stewards determined that the Mercedes driver momentarily lost control of his machine on the slick surface. This required him to take immediate evasive action to avoid a collision with the approaching Alpine competitor.

Although the five-second penalty was officially applied after the race concluded, it had zero impact on his final fifth-place finish. The comfortable gap he built over the chasing pack ensured his position remained entirely secure at the checkered flag.
In a similar administrative ruling, Haas competitor Ollie Bearman received an identical penalty for a parallel pit lane infraction, though it made no difference to his 17th-place result a lap down.
